About this Site

Mark Laai, trading as Great Athletes of Kenya (“AoK”, “we”, “us”, “our”) operates https://aok.co.ke (the “Site”) as an informational, historical, and editorial publishing platform covering Kenyan sporting history — including athletes, competitions, records, and related archival content. Great Athletes of Kenya is a registered sole proprietorship in Kenya, registration No. BN-8MC2D28L.

By using the Site, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

Nature of the content

The Site is a work of historical reference, journalism, and editorial publishing. It is not:
  • a system of record for any official sporting federation, Olympic, or Paralympic body;
  • financial, legal, medical, or professional advice of any kind; or
  • (at present) a store, marketplace, or service requiring an account or payment.

Historical and statistical content is compiled and edited using the sourcing approach described in our Research and Sources Policy.

Permitted use

You may browse and use the Site for ordinary personal, educational, research, and journalistic purposes, including reading, printing, and quoting reasonable extracts with appropriate attribution to Athletes of Kenya and, where given, to the underlying source. Ordinary linking to the Site — including deep-linking to a specific athlete, competition, or story page — is permitted and encouraged, as is reasonable quotation subject to attribution and applicable law.

What you may not do

Unless you have our prior written permission, you must not:
  • systematically scrape, crawl, mine, or bulk-extract data, text, or images from the Site by automated means, other than standard search-engine indexing conducted in accordance with the Site’s robots.txt;
  • reproduce a substantial part of the Site’s content, or copy, republish, redistribute, or syndicate it, in a way that goes beyond the ordinary personal, educational, research, and journalistic use permitted above;
  • create or contribute to a competing dataset or database substantially copied or extracted from the Site’s compiled athlete, competition, or record data;
  • misrepresent Site content as your own work, or use it in a way that is misleading about its source or accuracy;
  • use the Site or its content to harass, defame, or make false statements about any living person, including any athlete or contributor featured on the Site;
  • interfere with, overload, or attempt to circumvent any technical measure protecting the Site; or
  • use the contact form, or any other input on the Site, to submit unlawful, deceptive, or abusive content.

If you would like to license bulk data, structured extracts, or republication rights, contact hello@aok.co.ke.

Unless otherwise credited, AoK holds copyright and other applicable rights in AoK's original compilation, selection, arrangement, and editorial expression of the content on the Site — including its structured athlete, competition, and record datasets as AoK has compiled and presented them. This does not mean AoK owns the underlying historical facts themselves (names, dates, results are not owned by anyone); what is protected is AoK's own compilation, presentation, and editorial expression of them.

Some images and materials are used under licence, with permission, or from the public domain, as described in our Image and Copyright Policy; credit for those items belongs to the relevant rights holder as stated.

Accuracy and corrections

We make reasonable efforts to research and verify the historical and statistical information published on the Site, but we do not guarantee that it is complete, current, or free of error. Historical sporting records can be incomplete, inconsistent between sources, or subject to legitimate dispute.

If you believe something is inaccurate, see our Corrections Policy, which explains how to submit a correction and how we review it. A correction request is different from a request to remove accurate historical information — we may preserve a properly sourced editorial record even where a request asks for its removal, where there is a legitimate historical or public-interest basis for doing so, subject to applicable law and our own review.

The Site links to third-party websites, including official federation pages, historical archives, and other independent sources. We do not control, and are not responsible for, the content, accuracy, or availability of any third-party site, and a link does not imply our endorsement of it.

Future shop and paid services

The Site currently displays an early, non-transactional preview of possible future products and services (for example, in its Shop and Data Services sections). No payment, checkout, or order processing is currently active, and these Terms of Use do not set out sales terms for any such offering. If and when a paid product, service, or checkout facility is introduced, it will be governed by separate terms specific to that offering, published at the relevant time.

Responsible use of athlete information

The Site publishes information about identifiable people, including living individuals. You agree not to use content from the Site in a way that is intended to harass, intimidate, defame, or invade the reasonable privacy of any person, and to direct any concern about how a person is described to us via our Corrections Policy rather than through self-help republication, alteration, or dispute conducted elsewhere using our content.

No warranty

The Site and its content are provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we do not warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that its content is accurate, complete, or fit for any particular purpose. Nothing in this section is intended to exclude or limit any warranty or right that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, AoK will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Site. This limitation is intended to be reasonable and proportionate, and is not intended to exclude liability for matters that cannot lawfully be excluded (such as liability for fraud, or death or personal injury caused by our negligence).

Changes to the Site and these Terms

We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Site, and may update these Terms, at any time. Updated Terms will show a revised version and effective date at the top of this page.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Kenya.
